BORWICKS 1954 Clinker Built Dingy

⭕ This clinker built beauty is stunning and 100% original. My late father commissioned her from Borwicks of Windermere in 1954 and she has remained with us ever since. The interior is virtually like new and has never been re-varnished! Stored in perfect conditions under her canvas cover in a slightly damp outside tractor shed for more than 4 decades since the family left the Lake District, her planking has never shrunk or deteriorated at all. The exterior planking should now be re-varnished before being put in the water obviously but I have left her as she is so that she is totally original and to allow the new owner to protect her with a finish which is appropriate to the intended use, whether it be fresh or sea water. The interior would need no more than a clean as you can see from the pictures.

My father was a timber expert and spent over a year before the build started selecting every plank of larch for the clinker planking, oak for the keel, and mahogany for the seats, gunnels and trimmings. Old man Borwick, who admired my fathers expertise and dedication to perfection, told my father when she was completed that he believed she was the most beautiful rowing dingy that Borwicks had ever made in its long and distinguished history.
She was so carefully constructed that the larch planking inside was painstakingly mirrored port and starboard. Truly a world class masterpiece that, being unrepeatable, is almost beyond commercial valuation.
My father often talked about bringing her into the house and displaying her with a glass top as a dinning room table. However, it was his deep appreciation of timber and craftsmanship that always swayed his conscience because he knew her planking would shrink if he did. Instead he would often take me as a little boy to her shed and peel back the canvas cover and talk in great detail about how she was made, and why I needed to admire and understand the incredible level of skills involved.
