⭕ Beautiful Very Scarce Original 1920 Lucien Leroy Stereo-Classeur Mechanical Stereoscope


Heres a gorgeous, century-old Leroy Stereo Classeur mechanical stereoscope. The stereoscope is original throughout -- and still working -- and it comes with an original Leroy cassette filled with early glass stereo slides.

This is probably the scarcest mechanical stereoscope Ive ever owned. Its documented in Paul Wings Stereoscopes: The First One Hundred Years, but judging from the write-up, Wing himself never actually saw one. Rather, he based his description of Leroys Stereo Classeur on a catalog cut, and he just speculated that it must have been one of the nicest stereoscopes ever made.

As you can see, it was (and is).

Construction is impeccable. The cabinet is made of walnut, and its in exceptional shape, with an original finish that exhibits virtually no wear. The lenses are original, and theyre clear. Lacquered fittings are pristine everywere. The eyepieces are original, with no chips or damage. The focusing rack is working properly, and the stereo effect is vivid. The is no lock on the door, but the cabinet is otherwise in nearly prefect original condition, as you can see.

Mechanism is original and in excellent condition. No rust, dirt or corrosion anywhere. The lower left carrier arm is a bit sticky at times, but when depressed with your finger, it moves easily and grabs the glass slide firmly. Cassette advances as the slides are viewed, and the slides fall into the tray as designed. Theres a tiny chip in the corner of the ground glass window in back, but relative to the overall condition of the stereoscope, its insignificant.

The viewer uses early glass 6 x 13 mm stereo slides. As noted above, a full tray of slides is included. The viewer measures approximately 11 x 11 x 18. Shipping weight approximately 45 lb.
