Arriving for my second stay I noticed an immediate difference. The street entrance was littered with debris, lights were out in the lobby and the elevator chugged and jerked along as it struggled to the top floor. The Maid had refused to ride it calling it unsafe. Entering the apartment found no Welcome Gift as on previous stay. The maid did not assist me with my baggage -- an 80-year old cripple with a cane -- and did not apologize for the dust on the tables, dirty windows, closet door split and hanging off its hinges, handles only half connected, bookcase in entry falling apart, half the bulbs in the hall fixture, reading lights, kitchen task lights, and medicine cabinet were not working or switches were broken. The intercom was broken. Maid said she was too busy to do anything about these problems. The heater was still broken and shuts off on its own on cold nights and no hot water either. Shades in the main room were damaged, or didnt function or were missing. The shabby pieces of fabric nailed over the bedroom windows appear worn out and are dusty and smelly. The bed linens had not been changed from the previous renter and smelled of B.O. and urine. The maid said she had moved out unexpectedly without paying and there were other issues with that person, not a good excuse for the apartment to be turned over to me dirty. Oven was filthy as was the vent screen over the stovetop. There were empty liquor bottles left in the main room. Dirt marks and scuffs on the walls, cockroaches live in the closets, laundry closet in particular, mice run free in the apartment, silverfish live in the toilet room. Dishes are old and chipped.

Although I complained immediately to the owner, she denied any problem and suggested I move out . . . but no refund unless she re-rented . . . little chance of that happening.

Maid had a grudge as I had not given her a big tip. At checkout she accused me of breaking the washing machine handle; it always malfunctioned and you cannot try to open it until the full cycle has finished . . . the maid broke it after I left or she would not have returned my deposit. In front of the apartment, gangs of immigrant workers who gather in the square must be controlled by police; not very conducive to a pleasant or possibly safe stay. In conclusion the maid is lazy and has the homeowners under her thumb.

Pretty to look at but a nightmare to live in with a difficult maid
