CURTISS AEROPLANE OX-5 ENGINE ,JN-4 JENNY WW-1,WACO 10 - General For Sale - By Dealer
⭕ CURTISS AEROPLANE OX-5 ENGINE ,JN-4 JENNY WW-1,WACO 10
This listing is for one WW-1 CURTISS OX-5 AIRCRAFT ENGINE, as pictured. I purchased this engine in the 1990s from a really neat old time estate sale. There was even an original ANZANI with its original propeller, sold at this sale! The circumstances under which it was discovered and the story told to me by the owners family convinced me that this OX-5 probably has not been run since the 1920s when it was put in storage still mounted to a JN-1 fuselage. This aircraft had damaged both right wings clipping a tree while landing. Lending credibility to this story was the owners sale of an original JN-4 fuselage in the 1960s or 70s. Someone reading this right now probably bought it or knows who did.
The only significant parts that I can confirm are not included are the cylinder hold down tie rods and X brackets which sit on top of the cylinder heads. These were missing when I originally purchased this engine.
This engine was completely intact(other than the above mentioned parts & misc. hardware) when I began the inspection and tear-down.
Much work has been accomplished toward our goal of returning this engine to proper operational, running status. I have partially reassembled this engine to show the condition.
This engine has been completely disassembled, cleaned and inspected.
16 new valves have been properly fitted/lapped with guides and seats repaired .
The cylinders which have minor pitting have been honed.
The usual OX-5 nose case crack has been properly repaired.
The carb which is in excellent condition, has been disassembled, cleaned and reassembled.
A new thrust bearing is included.
The original cast iron piston rings show little, if any wear and could be reused. A handful are broken. The rocker arms show little, if any wear on their shafts.
The bottom end bearings (crankshaft and rod) show little, if any wear.
The water pump shaft shows some corrosion pitting, usable or could be repaired/replaced. Impeller and housing looks ok.
Camshaft has pitting on bearing surfaces, bearings are ok.
Oil pump drive shaft has some pitting, the gears, housing and cover are ok
Connecting rods are ok
Pistons are ok
All intake manifolds ok
