Madam Tussauds: Madame Marie Tussaud was a wax sculptor who, in 1765, made a famous waxwork of Louis XVs mistress, a creation which was to launch her illustrious career. A cast of this mould is now the oldest exhibit at the famous waxworks in Londons Marylebone Street.
If an old friend happened to mention that hed recently bumped into Barack Obama, David Beckham, Madonna, Cameron Diaz, The Queen and Shrek within a few minutes of one another, youd probably seriously consider phoning a psychiatrist. Until, that is, he added at Madame Tussauds, when youd instantly realise he was completely sane all along. Its a conversation that might well persuade you that in your search for good holiday rentals, London is the place to go.
The museum is open daily between 9.30am and 5.30pm (9.00am and 6.00pm during weekends and school holidays).
Oxford St, Bond Street: Located within a 1km, Oxford Street is probably the best known street in Britain, famous for its concentration of shops and its very British character. It runs from Marble Arch in the East to Tottenham Court Road in the West, bisecting the heart of Londons West End and attracts millions of shoppers every year. There are approximately 550 shops on the street including famous names such as Selfridges, John Lewis and many flagship stores.
Landmarks on Oxford Street include the Marble Arch, the Oxford Circus interchange and the Centre Point building as well as Bond Street. The street was originally a Roman road leading in to the old City of London from the East.
Europes busiest shopping street, people flock to Oxford Street to watch the ceremony of the Christmas lights being switched on by a celebrity, marking the beginning of the busy Christmas shopping season. Most of the shops have the same opening hours, from 10am to 7pm every day, except Thursdays when they stay open until 8.
British Museum: Founded in 1753, the British Museum is the oldest museum in the world. With exquisite and precious exhibits from across the world, spanning 2 million years of history and civilization.
If youre considering a city break this year, the chances are that you will have selected holiday Apartments; London has many to choose from. This fantastic city is positively buzzing with the ultra modern, the antique, the futuristic and the ancient, very frequently within a few paces of one another. And one of the citys many irresistible attractions, is the stunning British Museum in Great Russell Street, preserving treasures from the ancient past along with cutting edge modern technology.
Originally a collection presided over the physician Sir Hans Sloane (1660 -- 1753); it grew exponentially over the years thanks to the many gifts donated from far and wide as word of Sloanes cabinet of curiosities spread.
