AMES CIVIL WAR PRESENTATION SWORD / SABER


⭕ Incredibal grouping is anchored by a georgeous Ames presentation sword that still retains most of the original gold gilt and almost all of the frosting on the blade. The pommel is a full figural roman bust with high helmet and draped plumes. Mother of pearl grips with a unique guard of a engineers castle and crossed connon motif. The blad is in mint condtiond and marked Ames Mfg Co, Chicopee, Mass. The gold guilt scabbard is inscribed Presented to Capt Jas Davidson by the Manchester Mechanic Phalanx July 14, 1861. Aslo included is a presentation 39 inch brass telescope engraved presented by the Winnicument Guards to Caption James Davidson July 16, 1861 There is also a black leather saber belt with a 1851 saber belt palte. best of all is a cased ruby ambrotype of Captain James Davidson wearing the belt and holding this very sword!! There are many document that come with this grouping including a 1865 publication of History of Fort Constitution. It describes Davidson his history is of some interest as he served the country for more than 40 years...he was at the taking of Ver Cruz ...then at fort constituion commisioned a captain in the 2nd regt New Hampshire. Davidson was a 50 year military man fighting the Seminole indians in Flordia, saw action at Vera Cruz during the was with Mexico, and enlisted 2 companies in the civil war. Amazing piece and history.
