A RARE PERIOD HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE, VERY SELDOM OFFERED FOR SALE

BELOW IS A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE VEGANTUNE ENGINE AND HOW IT CAME ABOUT

This Evante sports car was produced by the tuning firm VEGANTUNE, when they were based in Spalding, Lincolnshire. They were restoring Lotus Elans, and made some logical developments, including using the Spyder chassis with double wishbone rear suspension, and more up to date running gear.

They decided to produce the car in total, from new, and the company became Evante Cars Ltd. The main changes from the Elan are fairly obvious, but there were many more beneath the surface. The engine was Vegantunes own VTA, initially in 1600cc, and later as a 1700cc. They were sold as the 140TC or with a bit more power, the 160TC. Gearbox and Final drive came from Ford.. Twin 40 Dellortos were installed, giving the car quick response and a lovely sound. Suspension is double wishbone all round, which gave the car exceptional handling. Many Road Testers found the car an exciting and enjoyable drive, rating it above most of the other sports cars of the day.

For those who dont know, the VTA ENGINE has a twin cam alloy head on a Crossflow block, with some other special castings. Produced for some years prior to the birth of Evante it was used in Formula Atlantic racing and wherever a 1600 twin cam was eligible. The output of 100Bhp per litre, for a two valve engine was, at the time, state of the art ( In the Evante it was produced with 140 and 160 Bhp outputs)



THIS ENGINE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN BUILT TO GIVE OVER 170 BHP

IT HAS AN EXTRA CAPACITY DEEP SUMP, ALL CAPS ARE SCREW-IN,

INLET PORTS ARE MIRROR POLISHED, LIGHTWEIGHT FLYWHEEL.

I WAS ALSO TOLD IT HAS A STEEL CRANK, L1 CAMS ETC?

THE ABOVE IS WHAT CAN BE VIEWED EXTERNALLY, BUT OBVIOUSLY

WILL NEED THE HEAD AND SUMP REMOVING FOR INSPECTION TO

ASCERTAIN WHAT IS ACTUALLY IN THERE AND THE CONDITION OF IT.

I DO KNOW THAT IT HAS BIG COMPRESSION WHEN TURNING OVER BY HAND

I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT IT HAS BEEN KEPT IN DRY STORAGE NOW FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, AS SUCH I STRONGLY RECOMMEND A STRIP/INSPECTION BEFORE RUNNING IT

WITH THE ENGINE IS A PAIR OF WEBBER DCOE 40s ON MANIFOLD

A VERY NICE HAND MADE COMPETITION STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST MANIFOLD

THIS IS GREAT PERIOD MOTOR THAT IS AS RARE AS HENS TEETH, WETHER USED IN AN EVANTE ( ELAN ) SINGLE SEATER, LOTUS 7, OR A 60s-70s ANGLIA / CORTINA / ESCORT ETC. ETC. WOULD BE IDEAL, MAKING BIG RELIABLE POWER THAT SOUNDS SUPERB AND OF COURSE IS PERIOD CORRECT, YOUR NOT GOING TO SEE ANOTHER IN A HURRY THATS FOR SURE!
