⭕ This early casting ( date stamped 15/8/63 ) had sat unused for decades and had never previously been worked on from new. Unlike many Lotus heads it had absolutely no sign of wear or damage. There was not even a hint of corrosion (see picture of rear waterways) and the head bolt platforms show no sign of recession (an obvious sign that the casting has not suffered from overheating and gone soft ). The cam follower bores are perfect and it had never been refaced.

It has been completely overhauled and kept to the standard specification apart from those changes necessary in keeping it reliable under modern day driving conditions. ( unleaded spec)

The head was first pressure tested and then chemically dipped to remove all traces of carbonised oil and paint. Hardened seats have been fitted and bronze valve guides. All core plugs have been replaced and the head has been lightly refaced and now measures 4.630 thick.

It has been reassembled with new valves and valve springs, new cam bearings and new inlet and exhaust studs/nuts .

The original cams were in excellent condition with no sign of wear , these have been refitted and tappet clearances set.

As an early casting this differs in appearance to the later castings and will look perfect under the bonnet of any restored early Lotus Cortina or Elan.
