6 CYLINDERS-BETTER PERFORMANCE THAN TODAYS 4 CYLINDER MODELS Mercury stopped building the 6 cylinder IN-LINE platform because they stopped emphasizing performance in this horsepower category. Todays 115 hp models are built with 4 cylinders because it is just plain less costly from a manufacturing standpoint to make a tuned down 115 hp motor out of 4 cylinders rather than 6. The 6 cylinder models truly are performers.

6 CYLINDERS-MORE TORQUE & SMOOTHER OPERATION All current two stroke 115 hp motors are 4 cylinders or less. That means for any single revolution of the crankshaft the cylinders on current model motors only fire 4 times whereas on the 6 cylinder motors the cylinders fire 6 times per revolution.

THE BEST POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO OF ALL TIME IN THE OUTBOARD INDUSTRY- In line MERCURY 4 and 6 cylinder model motors put out more horsepower per pound than ANY production outboard from any manufacturer.
