⭕ Antique Indian Solid Silver Large Presentation Cigars Box Casket c1900 1,399g

This is for an antique Indian solid silver large presentation cigars box casket, circa 1900.

Made of solid silver, and rectangular in form, with a hinged lid, and four supports. The lid and the sides are decorated with embossed and chased technique to depict Hindu deities, within foliate cartouche, on a foliate scroll and stippled ground. The lid has sloping sides, and is chased with a vancant cartouche to the front. The lid finial is cast in the form of a Hindu deity, seated on a lotus leaf base, which is flanked on either side by an elephant with a raised trunk. The four corners of the box are each applied with relief cast and stipple chased figure. The curved edge of the base is embossed and chased with a foliate border, and has applied foliate motif decoration to each edge. The four supports are cast and chased in the form of lions paws, and have foliate capitals. The hinged lid opens to a very large interior, for storing cigars. The silver is unmarked, but this tests as solid silver. The box measures 241 mm in length, 127 mm in width, and 183 mm in height. It weighs 1,399 grams or 44.98 troy ounces. This is one of the finest quality, and the heaviest pieces of Indian solid silver I have come across, and was probably made for presentation. The condition is generally excellent, without damage or repair.
