⭕ Offered here are a pair of ALTEC model 820 series speaker systems in excellent condition.. Labels show # 4563 and # 4684...Stored for many years but they appears to work perfectly..The condition of the Mahogany cabinets are very good with only minor defects most of which were repaired years ago and are barely noticeable. Grill cloth shows no damage..
The drivers are all original ..Production dates 1951.
The Altec 820A speaker has the earlier series black finish components....15inch 803 woofers(X2) and .802 (B) tweeter driver with 801 multi cell horn. (all12ohms)...N800D Xover network and of coarse the 821 corner cabinet..It still has the orig. RCA speaker connection on back..
The Altec 820C has the green 15 803 woofers(X2) and 802C tweeter driver with H811 horn ( all16 ohms) ,N800D Xover and 821 cabinet. I could not detect a sonic difference between the 820 speakers....ALL the driver components appear to be absolutely mint in both speakers.Please be advised that.I can not guaranty that Ive got the various driver designations correct! I wiped off 60 years of accumulated dust to take the pictures. I listened to these Altecs and I understand why they have been universal regarded as one of the ultimate reference speakers for many decades! They present a large and very real image with dynamics and wonderful sonic clarity yet never any harshness ..Even 60 + years later, they may not have an equal in musicality and realism ! They can be driven by a small triode tube amp,or a Quad II or Dynaco ST35 to higher levels with no hint of strain or edginess..
