⭕ Charlton Outdoor Technologies typically built this model as a special order item. The 1.6 model has the lowest production numbers in the 8500 series line of reels. They are primarily used in moderate to heavy saltwater applications. But due to the reels high volume and low weight, this model is an exceptional spey reel, used by such notables as Jim Vincent, as seen in the Rio International Spey Casting DVD with Simon Gawesworth and Lief Stavmo. One was built for another notable, the late author and writer, Jack Samson in which he mentions this model in his book, Billfish On A Fly. Over the years, Jack Samson had landed a number of billfish using this model. The 1.6 has the widest spool (1.6 inches with a diameter of 3.75 inches) and will produce the highest drag settings of the 8500 series reels. A premium saltwater design with extra capacity for handling 9 weight through 15 offshore-weight line. An extremely versatile reel with tremendous stopping power with all the distinguishing features and performance that Charltons have become renown for. The spool will easily handle 925 yards of 50# Spectron backing with WF-10 line, and 1000+ yards of 30 ft. shooting head with 50# running line. Yet with all the capacity and stopping power of this reel, it weights in at a mere 10.9 ounces. That in its self is a remarkable achievement!
